白馬五竜高山植物園が、白馬エリアで初めて、また国内スキー場としては第一号となる「自然共生サイト」に認定されました。この認定は環境省による制度で、2030年までにネイチャーポジティブ、つまり生物多様性の損失を止め回復させることを目標としています。

株式会社五竜が2000年に開業した白馬五竜高山植物園は、今年で25周年を迎えました。スキー場の立地や設備を活用し、雪の降らない6月から10月に運営することで、自然環境への恩返しや再生をテーマに様々な取り組みを行ってきました。国の特別天然記念物である雷鳥の保護活動やその餌となる植物の育成、希少な高山植物の保全や再生、再生可能エネルギーの導入など、自然と共生するための多岐にわたる活動が複合的に評価されました。

The Hakuba Goryu Alpine Botanical Garden Certified as a “Nationally Certified Sustainably Managed Natural Site” by the Ministry of the Environment

The Hakuba Goryu Alpine Botanical Garden has been officially certified as a “Nationally Certified Sustainably Managed Natural Sites“—the first in the Hakuba area and the first ever at a ski resort in Japan.
This certification, granted by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, recognizes efforts that contribute to a nature-positive future by 2030—halting and reversing biodiversity loss.

Opened in 2000 by Goryu Co., Ltd., the Hakuba Goryu Alpine Botanical Garden celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Operating from June to October when there is no snow, the garden uses the ski resort’s location and facilities to give back to and restore the natural environment. Its wide-ranging initiatives include protecting the Japanese rock ptarmigan (a national natural treasure), cultivating alpine plants that serve as its food source, conserving rare mountain flora, and introducing renewable energy. These combined efforts led to the certification.
